I discovered early in my life that I wanted to be a woman even though I was born in the body of a man. Following the path towards being true to my transgender identity, however, was not in any way straightforward. I struggled growing up in a conservative, Muslim society where being transgender was regarded as a grave sin. Under the pressures of this environment, I was forced to marry a woman. As fate would have it, I became the biological father of a beautiful daughter soon thereafter. I studied film-making at New York Film Academy and photography at the International Center of Photography in New York.
I believe the visual arts are the most powerful medium for stirring hearts and exploring the timeless question: what does it mean to love and to be loved as a human soul?
